Our Sports Premium government funded Grant for the financial year 2016/17 is £8 370. The Sports Premium will continue to be used to employ a specialist Sports coach for one afternoon a week. All pupils benefit from specialised PE coaching whilst teachers and teaching assistants gain valuable CPD by team-teaching and observing PE Lessons.Sporting Start who provide our sports coach also run an after school sports club each week in school.
Membership of a Cluster Sports Partnership is also funded through the premium; this provides excellent opportunities for competitive sport and we are delighted that so many of our children have, as a result of these opportunities, qualified for the Hambleton Area finals during the year. There are extra opportunities through the Sports Partnership for children who are identified as having particular strengths in PE.
Part of our allocation is used to train three children each year to be young Sports Leaders. This is an excellent opportunity for pupils to develop their leadership skills and other children in school have benefitted from the excellent lunchtime sports clubs our leaders have held.
We were delighted to be awarded the School Games Mark Gold Award in September 2016, recognising our participation in competitive sport in 2015/16. Our progress from Bronze to Gold in only one year is evidence of the impact of the effective use of the additional funding which is available through the Sports Premium.
In 2015/16, the PE premium was used to fund two specialist coaches to work alongside staff in school. One coach focussed on games and athletics whilst a specialist dance teacher was employed to work with each class. Staff have benefitted from the extra CPD opportunities as well as support to choreograph dance routines for school productions this year. The children have been very positive about the quality of PE offered by our coaches.
The PE premium also funded a weekly after school sports club and membership of a local sporting cluster which provided a range of opportunities for children to participate in competitive sport.
Our Sports Premium government funded Grant for 2014/15 was: £8329
This grant was used to help us:
- To deliver high-quality PE for all children
- To raise the confidence and skills of teachers to deliver high-quality PE
- To increase the range of opportunities for more children to participate in competitive sports
- To develop the health & well -being of all children
In July 2015, we were pleased to have been awarded a Bronze level, Sainsburys School Games Mark.
